From Septic to Sewer in Blenheim

A practical wastewater connection for an established Blenheim property

An older Blenheim home was still relying on an ageing septic tank and soakage field, despite public sewer services now being available nearby.

The existing system was showing signs of stress, with limited space available for a compliant replacement land application area. Replacing it with another onsite system would have been disruptive, costly and still required ongoing maintenance.

RISEN reviewed the site, Council records and available service information, then completed a topographic survey to confirm whether a gravity sewer connection was achievable.

A practical route was developed through the property and road corridor, accounting for stormwater, power, communications and other existing services. The final design included a new 100 mm private sewer lateral connecting to the public wastewater main, along with construction notes, reinstatement requirements and decommissioning of the former septic system.

RISEN also reviewed contractor pricing to compare scope, methodology and overall value, giving the client a clear basis for moving into construction.

The outcome

A clear, consent-ready solution that:

  • removes reliance on an ageing onsite system

  • reduces future maintenance

  • makes use of existing public infrastructure

  • provides a more reliable long-term wastewater connection

Services provided

Site investigation, topographic survey, wastewater design, Council approval support, contractor pricing review and construction planning.
